These and several others may be found in coffee (Sridevi et al., 2011), tea, and Salvia spp. (Faiella et al., 2012). Some types of diterpenes have been isolated from the fungus Trichoderma longibrachiatum (Miao et al., 2012) and from sponge family (Schnermann et al., 2011).
What foods contain diterpenes?
Coffee oil contains pentacyclic diterpenes as typical lipid constituents which have not been detected in any other foods. Major representatives are 16-O-methylcafestol, cafestol, and kahweol. Cafestol is contained in Arabica as well as in Robusta coffee. 16-O-Methylcafestol is found only in Robusta coffee.
What foods contain cafestol?
Cafestol is present in highest quantity in unfiltered coffee drinks such as French press coffee or Turkish coffee/Greek coffee. In filtered coffee drinks such as drip brewed coffee, it is present in only negligible amounts, as the paper filter in drip filtered coffee retains the diterpenes.
