Refreshing popsicles and other frozen novelties can be especially satisfying during the summer months, providing some sweet relief during the hottest days of the year. While these treats can occasionally run a little high in extra fat and sugar, many may be healthier for you than you think.

Is there a lot of sugar in popsicles?

Both experts say popsicles are a reasonable choice at 45 calories a piece. There's no fat and it's low in sugar, too. “Not bad if you're trying to wean off of higher calorie sugary treats. They do have four different types of sugar in the ingredients list so it's definitely not a healthy option,” Brissette noted.

Will popsicles make you fat?

"They may be a low-calorie choice, but they aren't satiating calories," says Allison Stowell, RD. "A Popsicle won't fill you up as an afternoon snack."
