Lutetium was actually the last lanthanide to be isolated in 1907; and was simultaneously discovered by three chemists working in different parts of the world. They were the Austrian Carl Auer von Welsbach, the American Charles James, and Georges Urbain from France.
Where is the element lutetium found?
Lutetium is found in the ores monazite sand [(Ce, La, etc.) PO4] and bastn°site [(Ce, La, etc.)( CO3)F], ores containing small amounts of all the rare earth metals. It is difficult to separate from other rare earth elements.
Who discovered the first element?
Although elements such as gold, silver, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known since antiquity, the first scientific discovery of an element occurred in 1649 when Hennig Brand discovered phosphorous.
