Nerines do best in a well-drained site with full sun and love it at the base of a sunny, south-facing wall. A good summer baking encourages plenty of flowers in autumn. Plant the bulbs shallowly two-thirds below soil level 10-15cm apart. Water them in well.
Where do Nerines like to grow?
Nerine bowdenii can be planted outdoors in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position in open borders or at the foot of a wall. They will not flower in shaded situations and do not compete well with other garden plants. They are also suitable for container cultivation.
Do Nerines need dividing?
Nerines tend to form large clumps over time and these need to be divided periodically to encourage good flowering. This is also the best way to propagate them. The best time to do this is in spring and early summer – simply dig up a clump, divide and replant smaller clumps separately.
