Is Beijing a prefecture?

Municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, & Tianjin) are not included but their internal divisions are similar as those of prefectures; Sub-prefecture-level cities are excluded; Sub-provincial cities are included, but other types of sub-provincial divisions are not; ... How is China divided up?

At present, China was divided into 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government, and 2 special administrative region (see the following table).
