Typically, a baby should stop sleeping in a bassinet somewhere in the four- to six-month range. The reason for this is that bassinets cannot hold too much weight, and they become a safety hazard as soon as your child can roll over, sit up, or move around on their own.
How do you know when baby has outgrown bassinet?
You should stop using the bassinet if:
- Your baby is too long (tall) and able to kick out touch the ends of the bassinet.
- Your baby has grown beyond the allowed weight limit of the bassinet.
- You notice your baby is getting uncomfortable in the bassinet.
- Your baby has shown signs of being able to roll over on his own.
How long should you use a bassinet for?
Bassinets can normally be used for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. Even though this doesn't sound like much time, it is a critical time of development for your newborn baby. A bassinet is the best and safest place for a baby to sleep in so make sure to choose the right one for your lifestyle.
