The CCL is a connective tissue in the knee that stabilizes the lower leg to the upper leg. It connects a dog's tibia, the bone beneath the knee, to the femur, the bone above.
Where is the dog CCL located?
The CCL attaches to the femur (thigh bone), runs across the stifle joint, and attaches to the tibia (shin bone). The CCL holds the tibia in place and prevents internal rotation and hyperextension.
Can dogs live with torn CCL?
Sure, it is possible to survive with a torn ACL. Sadly, it may be the only option if you absolutely cannot afford surgery. However, if you can afford surgery, it will dramatically improve your dog's (or cat's) quality of life.
