While the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' guidelines for Clomid treatment do not require monitoring during a Clomid cycle, valuable time-saving information can be gained by adding an ultrasound and hormone monitoring after the last dose of medication.
Do you need ultrasound for Clomid?
Before starting Clomid, the physician will schedule a baseline ultrasound to rule out the presence of cysts. The ultrasound will take place at the beginning of the woman's menstrual cycle, usually one to five days into the cycle. If she has no cysts, then she can start taking Clomid, typically for a total of five days.
What tests are needed before Clomid?
Part of your basic fertility testing included a basal FSH test, which looks at your levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on day three of your menstrual cycle. If your results were high (a threshold that varies among clinics), your doctor may want to do a Clomid challenge.
