Does a Plastic Light Switch Need to Be Earthed?

If any of our lamps, lights or bulb holders do not have an earth connection it will be because the outer surface is predominately made from a non conductive material such as glass, plastic, ceramic or bakelite etc, therefor it is not necessary to earth the unit.

Do you have to earth a plastic light switch?

If both your mounting box and faceplate are plastic and there's no earthing terminal, run green/yellow sleeving over the bare cores and clamp their exposed ends with a connector. That way, if you decide to change to metal fittings in the future, you'll be able to earth them safely and easily.

Where do you put an earth wire in a light switch?

The incoming earth conductor/s should be sheathed in green / yellow sleeving and connected directly to the metal switch earth terminal. If the metal box has fixed lugs current regulations would be complied with as earthing to the box would be via the securing metal screws that fix the switch plate to box.
