Why Lube Is Used?

Lube (short for “personal lubricant”) is a liquid or gel used to reduce friction and irritation during sexual activity. Lube can be useful during most any type of sex, including penis-in-vagina penetration, anal sex, sex toy play with or without a partner, and masturbation.

What are the benefits of using lube?

Why use lubricant? Lubricants can enhance sexual pleasure by decreasing friction during sex. Friction during sex is not only uncomfortable, but it can result in the lining of the vagina or anus tearing. These tears can put people at higher risk of sexually transmitted infections.

Is it healthy to use lube?

Lubricants are generally effective for their intended use – to provide additional lubrication to vaginal tissue during sexual activity to decrease discomfort. However, vaginal exposure to lubricants can also have toxic side effects long after their use that pose considerable risk to reproductive health.
