A healthy tree will usually tolerate one weed-and-feed application with few, if any, visual signs of distress. But two applications in one season will likely cause the tree's canopy to begin to thin. Applying the weed-and-feed product for three or more years in a row can kill a tree.
Can you use weed and feed near fruit trees?
We do not advise using weed and feed type products under your fruit trees because the herbicide may be harmful to the tree and the fertilizer may not be needed. Hand pulling, light tilling, mulching and hoeing are the preferred methods for weed control.
Will weed killer harm trees?
Broadleaf Weed Killers: Weed killers labeled as “lawn-safe” are designed to attack broadleaf weeds. Unfortunately, these chemicals cannot differentiate between weeds, trees, and shrubs. They will harm all non-grass plants. Use these with care and avoid direct exposure to trees and shrubs.
