Students play truant for number of reasons. Most of them play truant because of negative peer influence. Learning problems is another cause of truancy. Students who find academic subjects difficult or boring would prefer to play truant.

Why do students truant?

Parents perceived the main cause of truancy to be bullying, problems with teachers and peer pressure to stay away from school. Parents of children with attendance problems perceived regular school attendance to be less important than did parents of children who do not have attendance problems.

What happens when a student is truant?

What is TRUANCY? Students absent without a valid excuse for more than 21 periods(equal to 3 full school days) in one school year shall be classified as truant and a truancy letter will be sent home. After the first truancy, a student will receive an additional truancy letter for each additional 7 periods of absence.
