Most canoes have a center thwart or yoke used for carrying or portaging the canoe. Since the canoe is rowed from a position close to the center of the boat you will need to remove the center thwart or yoke in order to position the seat correctly.
Do canoes use paddles or oars?
A paddle is usually held by a paddler when propelling the canoe while oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks. A canoeist commonly uses a paddle, but a canoe can also use oars for propulsion if the canoeist knows how to make some basic adjustments to the boat – such as attaching oarlocks.
How are canoes powered?
Canoes and kayaks are two of numerous examples of boats defined as a small water vessel, typically open to the elements, and powered by wind, mechanical, or human power. Both the canoe and the kayak are relatively narrow, hollow shells, pointed at both ends, and propelled by human power over water by means of paddles.
