Who Do Gametes Form?

Gametes are reproductive cells that unite during sexual reproduction to form a new cell called a zygote. This condition is called 'anisogamy' or 'heterogamy', wherein the female and male gametes are of different sizes (in the case of humans, the ovum is ~20 times larger than the sperm cell).

Are male gametes produced?

The testes are the site of gamete production in males. The male gamete is called sperm. It is produced in the seminiferous tubules and testosterone is produced in the interstitial cells.

Is gametes formed by mitosis?

Gametes are produced by mitosis (not meiosis) and after fertilization a diploid zygote is created. The single zygote cell never grows or divides my mitosis.
