Dehydration. You may become dehydrated if you're overheated, if you aren't eating or drinking enough, or if you're sick. Without enough fluids, the volume of your blood goes down, lowering your blood pressure and keeping your brain from getting enough blood, causing lightheadedness.

- drinking more water.
- receiving intravenous fluids (hydration fluids given through a vein)
- eating or drinking something sugary.
- drinking fluids containing electrolytes.
- lying down or sitting to reduce the elevation of the head relative to the body.
When should I be concerned about lightheadedness?
Generally, see your doctor if you experience any recurrent, sudden, severe, or prolonged and unexplained dizziness or vertigo. Get emergency medical care if you experience new, severe dizziness or vertigo along with any of the following: Sudden, severe headache.
