Where do they live? From harsh deserts to lush rainforests, the highly adaptable dingo is found in every habitat and state of Australia except Tasmania. Dingoes favour edges of forests next to grasslands. In deserts, access to drinking water determines where the animal can live.

Habitat. Dingos live throughout western and central Australia in forests, plains, mountainous rural areas and desert regions. The make their dens in rabbit holes, caves or hollow logs, according to the University of Michigan's Animal Diversity Web (ADW).

Dingoes are Australia's only native canid and play an important role as an apex predator, keeping natural systems in balance. They're naturally lean, weighing between 13kg and 18kg and standing about 60cm tall. Their coats are commonly golden yellow, but they may have reddish, tan and black fur.
