Why We Use Disulphide?

Disulfide bonds can be formed under oxidising conditions and play an important role in the folding and stability of some proteins, usually proteins secreted to the extracellular medium.

What is the use of disulfide?

Disulfiram is used to treat chronic alcoholism. It causes unpleasant effects when even small amounts of alcohol are consumed. These effects include flushing of the face, headache, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating, choking, breathing difficulty, and anxiety.

Why are disulfide bonds important in proteins?

Disulfide bonds function to stabilize the tertiary and/or quaternary structures of proteins and may be intra-protein (i.e., stabilizing the folding of a single polypeptide chain) or inter-protein (i.e., multi-subunit proteins such as antibodies or the A and B chains of insulin).
