Observational studies with small sample size and short duration have shown that diuretics decrease blood pressure (BP) and improve edema in CKD patients but their use, particularly at higher doses, is associated with rise in serum creatinine and several metabolic complications [4,8–9].
What medications can increase creatinine levels?
Several drugs, such as cimetidine, trimethoprim, corticosteroids, pyrimethamine, phenacemide, salicylates and active vitamin D metabolites, have been reported to increase plasma creatinine without influencing its glomerular filtration.
Do diuretics lower creatinine levels?
Diuretic drugs have been reported to alter the glomerular filtration rate and possibly the creatinine excretion by the kidneys.
