When Do Underbites Develop?

When Do Underbites Develop?

Early treatment (aka Phase 1 treatment) between the ages of 7 and 10 may be most effective at correcting this bite. Widening the upper jaw at a young age can allow for the permanent teeth to erupt in a better position than they otherwise would have. Expanding the upper jaw can often prevent future jaw surgery.

Do Babies usually have Underbites?

Some children are simply born with a natural tendency for an underbite. If you had an underbite as a child, there is a good chance your son or daughter will have the same issue. Thumb sucking, constantly pushing one's tongue against teeth, and extended use of a pacifier can also contribute to an underbite.

Do toddlers grow out of underbite?

In more severe cases, the lower jaw may grow too far forward. As with overbites, we will sometimes need to wait until your child has finished growing to finish their treatment for an underbite. This phase of growth will usually reach completion by around the age of sixteen.
