The four important parameters are the welding current, wire electrode extension, welding voltage and arc travel speed. These parameters will affect the weld characteristics to a great extent. WELDING CURRENT The welding current is the electrical amperage in the power system as the weld is being made.
Correspondingly, what is the meaning of welding parameters?
Welding parameters. Data or technical properties relating to a machine or system. Welding parameters include the welding time, hold time, percentage amplitude and trigger.
Also, what factors affect welding? Factors affecting Welding:
- Melting point,
- thermal conductivity,
- reactivity,
- coefficient of thermal expansion,
- electrical resistance and surface condition of the material.
Similarly one may ask, how do you choose welding parameters?
- The major welding parameters with respect to arc welding are the current, voltage and the travel speed.
- electrode composition, diameter, and tip angle;
- gas used for shielding, trailing and back purging along with the flow rates;
- root gap;
- current polarity;
- filler metal feed rate;
- pre and post welding gas flow duration.
What is current in welding?
WELDING CURRENT The welding current is the electrical amperage in the power system as the weld is being made. It is usually read from the power source meter, but a separate ammeter is often used.
Angle - There are two torch angles to remember when welding. The first is the work angle, which is the relationship between the joint and the torch (or rod). Ideally, you'll hold your torch perpendicular, or 90 degrees, to the joint.
Work angle is the angle from the horizontal measured at right angles to the direction of welding (fig, 7-15). Travel angle is the angle in the direction of welding and may vary from 5 to 30 degrees, depending on the welder's choice and conditions (fig. 7-16).
What are the different types of welding defects? Weldings defects are classified into the following types: Incorrect profile, Crater, Cracks, Spatter and surface porosity, Incomplete filled groove, Distortion, Blowholes, and internal porosity, Cracks, Inclusions, Lack of fusion, Incomplete fusion.
A:Travel speed is a function of time and distance traveled. Then determine how much time elapsed along with the total length of filler metal deposited. For example, let's say the welder traveled 4.5 inches in 50 seconds. Divide 4.5 by 50 and you get 0.09 inches per second.
WELDING PROCEDURES
- 5 essentials for proper welding procedures.
- 1) CORRECT ELECTRODE SIZE.
- 2) CORRECT CURRENT.
- 3) CORRECT ARC LENGTH or VOLTAGE.
- 4) CORRECT TRAVEL SPEED.
- 5) CORRECT ELECTRODE ANGLE.
- 8 FACTORS to consider in selecting arc welding electrodes.
More than 30 different types of welding exist, and they range from simple oxy-fuel to high-tech processes such as laser beam welding. However, only four welding types are used commonly, and they are MIG, TIG, Stick and Flux- Cored arc welding.
MIG welding (metal inert gas welding) is one of several welding processes that use electricity to melt and join pieces of metal. MIG welding uses lots of electricity to create an electrical arc between an electrode wire and the metal being welded. The arc melts the wire, which is then deposited to create the weld.
MIG Voltage Type and Welding Polarity
MIG welding unlike most other welding processes has one standard voltage type and polarity type. The voltage used is DC direct current, much like the current in a car battery. Direct current flows in one direction, from the negative (-) to the positive (+).
Aluminum doesn't act the way other metals do during welding, so it can be difficult to determine weld progress and quality. Simply put, aluminum is difficult to weld because it is a soft, highly sensitive metal insulated by a tougher oxidized layer.
Getting the most from your machine
| For wire size | Multiply by | Ex. using 1/8 inch (125 amps) |
| .023 inch | 3.5 inches per amp | 3.5 x 125 = 437.5 ipm |
| .030 inch | 2 inches per amp | 2 x 125 = 250 ipm |
| .035 inch | 1.6 inches per amp | 1.6 x 125 = 200 ipm |
| .045 inch | 1 inch per amp | 1 x 125 = 125 ipm |
We mean CLAMS: Current settings. Length of arc. Angle of travel. Manipulation of the electrode and Speed of travel. If you're just learning the Stick process, remembering these five points will help you simplify and improve your welding technique to perfection.
Push or pull? The push or forehand technique involves pushing the gun away from (ahead of) the weld puddle. Pushing usually produces lower penetration and a wider, flatter bead because the arc force is directed away from the weld puddle.
The standard shielding gas for carbon steel contains 75 percent argon and 25 percent carbon dioxide. There are other MIG welding shielding gases used on stainless steel and aluminum; however, setting the gas flow remains the same for all shielding gases.
A: Arc welding involves open circuit (when not welding) voltages which are typically from as low as 20 volts to as high as 100 volts. Q: What voltages are normally found inside the case of an arc welder? A: The voltage inside welding equipment is commonly much higher: from 120 volts to 575 volts or more.
Advantages of Welding Joints
In welding filler plates, gusseted plates, connecting angles etc, are not used, which leads to reduced overall weight of the structure. Welded joints are more economical as less labor and less material is required. The efficiency of welded joint is more than that of the riveted joint.
