Some of our artists will provide you with a Tegaderm (also known as Saniderm or Tattooderm) bandage. This method of healing is a little different, so it’s important to follow these steps. Tegaderm is a sterile, breathable, waterproof, germ-proof barrier to protect your new tattoo.

Can you use transparent film dressing on tattoo?

You may leave transparent dressing on tattoo for up to 3 days, as long as you don’t notice any irritation. Some fluid is beneficial to healing. If excess fluid collects under bandage to the point where it may burst, remove, clean, and apply a new bandage.

Can you put Tegaderm directly on wound?

Yes, provided the wound / site is not infected, 3M™ Tegaderm™ Film Dressing may be used to cover it.

How often should you change a transparent film dressing?

Change every 3-7 days or as necessary. May require a secondary or cover dressing to hold in place.

How do you tell if you’re allergic to Saniderm?

Irritation can look like: Bumps, hives, clogged pores/pimples • Blisters • Redness • Itchiness.

What can I use instead of Saniderm?

If you do not have Saniderm on:
Step 1: Wash tattoo with lukewarm water and non-scented antibacterial soap, using only your hands, do not use any scrubbers or washcloths. Step 2: Pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel. Step 3: Apply only non-scented lotion to the tattoo. Step 4: Wash your tattoo 3-4 times a day.

Does Saniderm pull ink?

There is no need to worry about Saniderm negatively affecting your ink at all. In fact, customers report that their tattoos retain more of the vibrant color of fresh ink after using Saniderm, compared to tattoos that have healed by other methods.

How long does it take a tattoo to heal with Saniderm?

The healing process usually takes a week to two weeks. Saniderm sends you in a completely different direction. Your first Saniderm bandage goes on for 8-24 hours and is removed when the lymph (that sticky clear fluid) build up breaks the seal. A thorough wash, and then you apply a second Saniderm bandage.

What causes tattoo blowout?

Tattoo blowouts occur when a tattoo artist presses too hard when applying ink to the skin. The ink is sent below the top layers of skin where tattoos belong. Below the skin’s surface, the ink spreads out in a layer of fat. This creates the blurring associated with a tattoo blowout.

Should you put Neosporin under Tegaderm?

Each day the wound should be cleaned with either soap and water or with peroxide. Plain petroleum jelly should be placed on the wound. Do not use antibiotic ointment (Neosporin, Polysporin, Triple antibiotic ointment, or Bacitracin.)

Can you put gauze under Tegaderm?

The gauze dressing over the wound acts as a highly absorbent pad to absorb any excess exudate as well as keeping the immediate surroundings moist. The occlusive polyurethane film (Tegaderm), applied over the gauze, provides a waterproof seal to the wound.

Can you be allergic to Tegaderm?

Rash, erythema, and urticaria occurred with hypersensitivity reactions. Dermatitis, pruritus, erythema, eczema, rash, urticaria, skin irritation, and blisters occurred with allergic skin reactions.

Is hydrogel a hydrocolloid?

Saniderm is latex-free. Will Saniderm pull out my ink? No, in fact, Saniderm will preserve the ink in your healing tattoo. Your Saniderm bandage will not attach to the tattoo area, but rather the area around it.

Can tattoo get infected under Saniderm?

It’s simple—Saniderm minimizes the risk of infection by protecting your tattoo so it can heal through its own natural methods. While your skin is in the first stage of healing, it is especially susceptible to infection from outside elements.

Is Saniderm supposed to hurt?

Pulling upward on the Saniderm can be painful, so we don’t recommend it. In some rare cases, people can “stick” to the Saniderm bandage better than others, which can make it more difficult than normal to remove. In cases like this, try removing the Saniderm in a warm shower.
