Can you reuse well nuts?
Used bolts, nuts, washers, and other types of fasteners should not be reused on critical joints or applications, no matter their condition. If joints have been designed for loosening and tightening, that action is permitted.
Are Rivnuts watertight?
Any application where you wouldn’t want water or fluid to leak underneath or through the rivet nut should require a watertight rivet nut. Without using one of the seals, whether it’s an O-ring or sealant, it may not be completely watertight – especially as corrosion begins to develop.

What is a self lock nut?
A Locknut (self-locking nut, locking nut), is a nut which resists loosening through vibration and normal use. This trait makes them essential hardware for a multitutde of applications. Unlike free spinning nuts, lock nuts make use of a deforming elastic or metal material to stay in position against torque and shock.
Can screws be reused?
Recycling and reusing items is something we all strive to do but can you reuse a screw? Typically you can if the screw has never exceeded its yield point. The yield point is the point where the screw will not return to its original length or shape when the load is removed from it.
Can you loosen a lock nut?
Lock nuts can be very difficult to remove. A lock nut will not loosen, even under intense vibrations. They are different on each side, making them very difficult to get off. Lock nuts come in various sizes for many different applications and are most often used by mechanics and engineers to hold wheels in place.
Are well nuts stronger than rivets?
Bolts are the strongest, followed by rivets and wellnuts. I wouldn’t use wellnuts for rod holders or any other high load attachment. For low load attachments wellnuts are fine and provide a very water tight seal.
Can you screw into a kayak?
Yes, you can drill into a kayak and mount gear tracks and certain other parts. If you do drill, you will want to use waterproof silicone to keep the holes water tight. Also, if you do not have access to the inside for backing, then you can use pop rivets.
How do you waterproof rivets?
The only way you can try and get a “waterproof” install is to buck it or pop it “wet” and what I mean by that is to coat the rivet shank and both sides of the hole with structural adhesive/sealant and then install it.
Are threaded inserts waterproof?
These inserts are made of rubber or neoprene with a threaded metal sleeve insight, and when they are tightened, the rubber draws in to form a waterproof seal.
