How do I register for the CBEST in California?

How much does CBEST cost?

The CBEST test cost for the computer-based version is $41 plus a $61 service fee. The cost of taking a paper-based test is $41. Those taking the paper test may be subject to additional fees, like an extra $18 for late registration or an extra $35 fee for emergency registration.

Can I take the CBEST online?

As long as you have a Bachelor’s degree, we’ll be able to place you into a classroom without a CBEST or 30 Day Permit. While you wait to receive your “pass” results, feel confident that you’ll be considered for schools that do not require CBEST of 30 Day Permits for substitute teachers.

In response to the shortage, most initial teacher credential fees are being waived between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. Unfortunately, California has not waived fees for variable term waivers, which include CBEST waivers.

But what happens if you do not pass the CBEST test? You can retake any or all of these subtests as many times as you need to get a passing score. The only limitation is a waiting period after your last attempt – 45 days must pass before you can sit for any retakes.

Once the CBEST examination has been passed, it need not be taken again since it indefinitely satisfies the basic skills requirement necessary for certification and program enrollment.
