No Significant Damage from the Caldor Fire
EID is happy to announce that Sly Park Recreation Area sustained minimal damage during the Caldor Fire. The only damage was caused by a back burn operation below the dams that has necessitated the closure of the trail system in that area.
Is Sly Park still closed?
Sly Park Recreation Area is still CLOSED. There may be some confusion about El Dorado County letting their mandates expire as of 4/30. These mandates are above and beyond the mandates set by the State of California. The State shelter in place still applies.
Does Sly Park camping have hookups?
Sly Park Recreation and Silver Lake West: No hookups. Sly Park Recreation Areas does have a septic dump station you can use (included with the price of the campsite).
Are there bears at Sly Park?
Do you have bears? Sly Park Recreation Area: Bears have not been a problem in the campgrounds. It is always a good idea to put away food and garbage at night for the other critters like squirrels, raccoons or birds. Silver Lake West Campground: Bears are known to be in the area.
How much does it cost to get into Sly Park?
Since Sly Park is open 365 days a year that works out to 43 cents per day (33 cents for seniors). Visitors can go to to get more information about fees and to make a reservation for their next camping trip.
How far is the Caldor fire from Sacramento California?
The Caldor Fire ignited a few miles south of Grizzly Flats, a community of about 1,200 residents about 60 miles east of Sacramento and 10 miles south of Highway 50. Hundreds of homes, ranches and outbuildings are nestled within the largely wooded area between Placerville and Eldorado National Forest.
Can you boat at Sly Park?
Sly Park Recreation Area offers non-motorized boat and paddle board rentals through a vendor, Current adventures Sly Park Paddle Rentals. While camping at Sly Park Recreation Area you may have up to 8 people in an individual site. At Silver Lake West Campground there is a maximum of 6 per campsite.
Is Sly Park dog friendly?
This beautiful wooded recreation area is at an elevation of 3500 feet. There is an 8 mile loop trail that circles Jenkinson Lake. It is a popular park for hiking, horseback riding, fishing and camping. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trails and in the campgrounds.
Can you swim in Sly Park?
Located just 13 miles east of Placerville off Hwy 50 at Pollock Pines, the area features forests, and nine miles of hiking and equestrian trails surrounding picturesque Jenkinson Lake. Swimming and boating are popular activities, with two boat ramps and many beaches available to swimmers.

Current Snow Conditions at Sly Park Recreation Area: Little to no snow on the ground and roadways.
What kind of fish are in Sly Park Lake?
Fisherman from near and far come to hook lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, bluegill, and largemouth bass, among other species. Sly Park Lake is a prime destination for experienced anglers, but you don’t have to be a pro to trawl here. This area welcomes all skill levels, from beginner to expert.
Can you swim in Union Valley Reservoir?
On the water, sailing, boating and swimming are very popular. For hikers and bikers, the Union Valley Bike Trail and Bassi Falls Hiking Trail are great for exploring.
Where does El Dorado Hills water come from?
The project and its water come from four high-elevation raw water storage reservoirs/lakes: Caples and Silver lakes along Highway 88 and Lake Aloha and Echo Lake located north of the Highway 50 corridor.
