The Morris Island Lighthouse, a defunct lighthouse just north of Folly Beach on Morris Island at the entrance of the Charleston Harbor, stands just a few hundred feet off the coast. Its light never shines, but it remains a beloved historical site for both locals and vacationers.
Can you go inside the Morris Island Lighthouse?
You cannot drive directly up to the the lighthouse. You can however that Ashley Avenue as far as you can go north on Folly Beach, park, and walk a mile or so to view it from a small beach. It’s great and fun for the entire family. The lighthouse is surrounded by water and is not open or available for touring.
Can you climb Morris Island Lighthouse?
The lighthouse itself is now 100 yards off Morris Island and over a half a mile offshore from Folly Island and beach across Lighthouse Inlet. You can walk to the lighthouse. A 20-foot seawall around the base has been built to keep the tower from falling. Climbing the wall is not allowed.
