Can I use a staple gun for carpet?
Electric staplers are good for flooring, carpet, insulation, installing screens, and upholstery. They may not fit into tight spaces as well as manual staple guns, but they will drive staples at awkward angles where squeezing the trigger of a manual staple gun would be difficult or even impossible.

We chose 1/2” staples because they provide the 3/16 – 1/4 inch penetration needed to firmly secure our carpet to the hard wood steps while still firing flush. We fired a staple about every 4 inches along the back and sides of the runner.

Hammer the nails into the floor; make sure that there are at least two nails for every strip. The carpet is usually placed over a carpet pad. Once the carpet is rolled out and installed, it has to be tacked down. The carpet tack should grip the edges of the carpet through the carpet backing.
What size staples do you use for carpet padding?
Generally, you will want to use 1/2-inch staples or larger ones. Be sparse with your staples and only put in enough to ensure that the carpet stays down and in place. If the subfloor is hard, be sure to fully sink each staple with a hammer.
