Calandivas are commonly sold as indoor plants. In more temperate climates (zones 10a-11b) they grow outdoors. When I lived in Santa Barbara, I grew them in pots on my covered front porch year round. You could put yours outdoors for the summer but just make sure it’s out of direct sun and don’t let it stay too wet.

Come fall, place your plant in an area that is dark at least 14 hours a day (no artificial light). Make sure your plant receives “long nights” (~14 hours) for about six weeks. After about six weeks, you should start to see buds form.

Watering: Water calandivas sparingly. The potting mix of calandivas should be allowed to dry in between waterings. Watering once every two weeks, or slightly more often, is sufficient.

Calandiva belongs to the Crassulaceae family of flowers, and they can last up to six weeks from the moment they start flowering! They are also known for flowering throughout winter and spring.
Is Calandiva a succulent plant?
Calandiva enjoy bright, indirect light. “These beauties are much like succulents, so they like the soil to dry a bit between waterings,” according to Neese.
How do you deadhead Calandiva?
Snip off the flowering stem near its base above the first set of large leaves with a small pair of shears. Avoid pinching or pulling the flower clusters off because that can cause damage to the fleshy kalanchoe stems. Dispose of the removed flower cluster.
Are Calandiva plants poisonous to dogs?

This plant does belong to a group of plants that contain cardiac toxins (bufadienolides). However, ingestion by dogs and cats most often results in gastrointestinal irritation or upset.
