Brake Caliper Grease

Brake Caliper Grease

Our recommendation is to go with silicone and PFPE-type brake caliper grease formulas that can withstand temperatures between -40 and 392 degrees Fahrenheit. Polyglycol follows, working well in temperatures between -40 and 257 degrees Fahrenheit.

Do you need special grease for brake calipers?

Before putting the caliper bolts back into their spot, they need to be lubricated properly. Brakes are one of the hottest places for your car, so you’re going to need high-temperature grease. This lubricant is synthetic and can withstand the high temperatures that your car’s brakes will reach.

What grease should I use for caliper piston?

Super Lube® Silicone Lubricating Brake Grease can also be used to dampen vibrations between disc brake pads and caliper pistons.

Can you use any grease for brake calipers?

What’s needed is a specially formulated, high-temperature brake grease that can withstand the heat, and also not harm rubber seals or plastic bushings. Petroleum-based lubricants should never be used for brake assembly work because mineral oils can cause seals to swell and fail.

Is silicone paste the same as silicone grease?

Silicone greases are often considered to be the same as silicone pastes. Whereas silicone greases are thickened with a lithium soap, silicone pastes are made by dispersing silica in PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) oils with the use of thickening agents.

Should you grease brake caliper piston?

With the brake caliper pistons, it is not often that you need to try to grease them. Most do not go about this process unless they are replacing the brake pads. In the middle of installation, they add grease to the pistons. Lubricating when you replace the brake pads is your best bet.

Can you use regular grease for caliper pins?

You shouldn’t use petroleum based grease near the brakes imo. Use something silicone based so if you accidently get it on the pads or rotor it’ll eventually break down. Petroleum based ones won’t break down as easy and will stop the pads from creating friction.

Can you use silicone grease on brake pistons?

Copper slip is good for anti squeel and coating unpainted areas ,and silicon grease for the seals,, pistons and sliding pins and boots.. Just don`t get it on the discs,, and don`t use silicon sprays for the same reason,. The little packets of rubber grease are also good but they never give you enough for a proper job.

Can you use anti seize instead of brake grease?

Anti-seize is also a greasy lubricating substance, but unlike brake grease, it can take some heat. It can withstand temperatures up to 2600 degrees, thanks to its high-solids content. The flip side of that is that it can’t be applied to fast-moving metals. It could easily jam the rotating parts and damage the system.

Can you use anti seize as brake grease?

If you use it on caliper slides they will seize up and become frozen in place. If you use it to lubricate the pads they will also become stuck and not move properly. It won’t take long either, just a couple of thousand miles before it will harden up.

Can silicone grease be used on caliper pins?

Super Lube® Silicone Lubricating Brake Grease should be used at every point in the brake system where parts slide or move. With disc brakes, lubrication points include: caliper slides, pins, bushings and contact points where the pads slide within the caliper housing.

Is plumbers grease the same as silicone grease?

Plumbers grease is different from silicone grease. It is composed of silicone grease plus additional additives to thicken the formulation. On the other hand, silicone grease consists of pure silicone oil and silica thickener. This makes it easier for the grease to settle on surfaces that provide potable water.

Can you use silicone grease on O rings?

If you find the o ring is hard to reach, we’d recommend placing some silicone grease on a screwdriver and use it to reach the o ring and lubricate it as best as you can. Drip oil lubricant (silicone) can also be an alternative if you need to lubricate and grease several o rings all at the same time.
