Pomi tomatoes are cultivated from over 560 Italian farms located mostly in the municipal districts of Cremona, Parma, Piacenza and Mantua, in Northern Italy.

What is passata called in America?

Tomato Passata is pureed, strained tomatoes usually sold in bottles. It’s 100% tomato, no additives or flavourings, but sometimes contains added salt. It’s uniform and smooth unlike crushed or chopped tomatoes, and makes gorgeously thick tomato-based sauces. It’s known as Tomato Puree in the US (here’s a photo).

Can I use tomato sauce instead of strained tomatoes?

The tomatoes are washed, peeled, chopped and mixed with a lightly concentrated tomato juice. The product is then thermally pasteurized and aseptically filled in our signature carton boxes. The product is exclusively made of Italian tomatoes from our farmers. Chopped tomatoes contain visible seeds and peels.

What are strained tomatoes used for?

Processing the tomatoes includes removing the stem, leaves, skin and the seeds removed from the tomato pulp prior to further processing and packaging. Strained Tomatoes are my personal favorite and I use this product exclusively in making marinara and long simmered sauces.
