Is CocoCay a private island?
In May, Royal Caribbean International opened Perfect Day at CocoCay, a private island in the Bahamas available to passengers on the company’s ships.
Do you need a passport to go to CocoCay?
It doesn’t really matter much in your case – Coco Cay (or any Bahamas only cruises) do not require a passport. You can use pretty much any government issued photo identification, plus your birth certificate, to get onto the ship.
Do people live on CocoCay Bahamas?
The mostly local Bahamian employees live on the island, which is only operational when guests are there. Only Royal Caribbean employees and cruise ship guests have access to CocoCay.

Coco Cay aka Little Stirrup Cay, is privately owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL). It is about one mile long, 1/3 of a mile wide, and its white-sand beach is reserved exclusively for RCCL’s guests.

Where do the staff live on CocoCay?
The housing on Coco Cay for the staff is in the center of the island and easily visible from the center trail. On Labadee it is past the straw market on the far inland side. The staff is supplemented significantly with ship staff on each cruise visit who support all of the activities that day.
Is CocoCay open to the public?
Yes, all attractions and features at Perfect Day at CocoCay are now open.
Can you work on a cruise ship if you have a child?
Yes, you can work onboard a cruise ship if you have a child. A huge percentage of people working on cruise ships have kids. Most of those kids are not onboard though. The majority of crew member that have children have family members at home taking care of them while the crew member works onboard.
Do cruise ships carry guns?
Are there any firearms on cruise ships? Cruise ship security officers do not carry guns and you will never see a gun on a cruise ship. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a hidden cache of firearms locked away for emergencies. Cruise lines do not release details of their security operations for obvious reasons.
Do cruise ship workers pay taxes?
If you work on a U.S. Flagged ship, you will pay all applicable federal, state and local taxes. If you are assigned to an international ship, it will be your responsibility to report income earned when you return to your respective country.
