The spa filter is brown (paper bag in color), gray or green or if it stays a dark yellow color after cleaning. The spa or hot tub has been transferred to a new owner. The filtering element (the pleated part) becomes flat and loses its fibrous sheen.
Can you put hot tub filters in the dishwasher?
DO NOT clean spa filters in the dishwasher! It’s not very effective and could damage the filter. DO NOT clean spa filters with a pressure washer, for obvious reasons. Dry dishwasher soap is OK, but laundry detergent is NOT OK.
Can I run my hot tub without a filter?
Don’t Run It Without the Filter
Running the pump in a spa for too long without a filter can lead to clogged pump impellers and a fast decline in the water quality. So if you need a new filter, replace it as soon as possible. And in the meantime, only run the pump on low speed instead of turning it off.

Some hot tubs don’t include filters at every intake location; instead, they rely on just one or two filters to handle a disproportionate volume of water. The intakes without filters have suction fittings that pull water into the pump.

You may see a blue tint if the copper level is very high. Test the water with a copper test kit to make sure it is within the recommended range of 0.2-0.4ppm. You may need to turn your ionizer setting down if you have a copper level higher than 0.4ppm.
Why does my hot tub filter get dirty so fast?
A filter that clogs up quickly is likely coated with mineral scale, oily films, or both. A cleaning with spa filter cleaner is in order to unclog the microscopic passageways between the fibers of the filter. TSP can also be used for oily filters, but it won’t remove mineral scale from hard water.
How long do Lay Z Spa filters last?
It is recommended the filters are changed every 3 days. Make sure to clean the filter after each use.
Can I leave my lazy spa on overnight?
Can I leave the spa on all the time? The spa can be left on, if the heater function is left on, the pump unit will maintain the temperature of the water for you. If you want to use the spa regularly this is the most cost effective way of maintaining the water temperature.
Is it cheaper to leave lazy spa on all the time?
Depending on the amount you use your Lay‑Z‑Spa, in our experience it is better to leave the heater activated all of the time, if used regularly ‑ say 3 or more times per week. We would recommend setting the spa at 25°C to 35°C and then before using increasing the temperature up to 40°C if desired.
What should I soak my hot tub filter in?
Soak in dishwasher detergent: Some spa pros say you can clean a hot tub filter with dishwasher detergent. One way to do this is to simply use a cup of dish detergent instead of vinegar in the same amount of water and let the filter soak for 24 hours.
Do hot tubs constantly filter?
Continuously? Most residential spa owners do not need to run their hot tub pumps all the time. Unless the spa is used multiple times per day, a filtration cycle of 2-8 hours, twice a day, should be enough to keep most hot tubs sanitary.
Can you pressure wash hot tub filters?
Don’t use a high-pressure washer to blast residue off the filter. The water stream should be gentle enough to prevent tearing or breaking the filter. Then let the filter dry completely before reinstalling it in the hot tub.
