Epoxy clay is self-hardening clay that hardens when it gets the right temperature and time. Epoxy clay is made of two soft parts. Just like liquid resin, these two parts are mixed, and a chemical reaction takes place. In about a period of 24 hours, the clay sets itself and hardens.

Is polymer clay the same as epoxy clay?

Both can be used to make sculpts, but generally polymer clay can achieve finer detail, and if using a good brand especially will be nicer to handle, plus of course it won’t harden till heated so you can work on it or leave it as long as you like.

How do you use epoxy clay?

Gently press your pieces into the clay for a snug fit. When you’re satisfied with your design, let it cure for 24 hours; no need to bake. It’s best to rest the clay on wax paper so it does not stick to your surface as it cures. Any smooth, non-porous surface should work if you don’t have wax paper.

Is epoxy clay the same as air dry clay?

Epoxy clays generally cure stronger than air day clays, but consequently they are also heavier. This is neither good or bad, just something to be aware of.

Is epoxy clay Food Safe?

We do not have FDA approval certifying direct, long-term contact with food. However once epoxy is fully cured for 30 days, it is an inert plastic and should be fine for incidental exposure to food. It is not antimicrobial. Epoxy is not safe to ingest (liquid or cured).

Can you paint epoxy clay?

You can color the epoxy clay using acrylic paints. need a little bit to create deep opaque colors.

What clay is used for sculptures?

Polymer clay has many advantages, particularly if you do not have a studio or kiln. It is almost certainly the best clay to use for sculpting when kids are involved. They won’t make too much of a mess, the material is safe and they can fire their work to create pieces to keep.

It dries very hard within 24 hours depending on the thickness. The consistency is clay-like, but it does droop a bit and so must be put over an armature or left to stiffen in order to hold certain shapes.
