This is a very common Mexican expression. It comes from the infinitive andar = to walk. It has many meanings ranging from “hurry”, “go ahead” , to “really?” or “you don’t say” used as expressions of interest or surprise when someone is telling you a story.

Basically it means “Truth!” or “Preach on!” As a greeting, the word is used by Cheech Marin in his 1987 film Born in East L.A. in the phrase “Órale vato, ¡wassápenin!”, meaning “All right, man! Beck’s 1996 album Odelay uses a phonetic English rendering of “órale” as its title.
