Motor gas, slang for gasoline, used by aviators to distinguish it from avgas (aviation gasoline)
What is Mogas military?
MOGAS is commercial gasoline identical to that supplied to gas stations for automobile use. The USCG, MSC, Air Force, and Army have no vessels with fixed MOGAS storage. Most vehicles and equipment are brought aboard fully loaded with fuel, and additional MOGAS is carried in portable drums or containers.
What is the difference between Mogas and gasoline?
In a nutshell, Mogas which is otherwise known as motor gasoline, is used by ground vehicles, while Avgas is specifically developed for aircraft use. A common oxygenate, ethanol, can cause damage to fuel system hardware and has a low energy content which can reduce aircraft range.
Mogas (also called autogas) is lead-free, ethanol-free gasoline that meets ASTM D4814 specifications, which includes most automotive fuel. Mogas has been an FAA-approved aviation fuel since 1982, when the first mogas STCs were approved.
