The Orchid Dottyback is a reef-safe saltwater fish. The only invertebrates it will bother are the kind most people are happy to have removed from their tanks, like bristle worms and potentially small fan worms.

What does Orchid Dottyback eat?

Most dottybacks love meaty food items like Mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, and various frozen meaty aquarium foods. However, they will also readily accept pellets and flake food. Orchid dottybacks will feast on bristle worms in your tank if they are present.

How do you take care of a dottyback orchid?

Having lots of caves in your aquarium is key to minimizing aggression. You can have corals in the tank too, Orchid Dottybacks will leave them alone. Maintain a temperature of 74°F-82°F, a pH of 8.1-8.4, and a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025. The water should have a slight current and be moderately lit.

Can dottybacks live with clownfish?

Good tank mates include Cirrhilabrus sp. wrasses, Centropyge sp. angels, clownfish, damsels, and hawkfish. Be sure to add the dottyback last in all occasions.

How do you feed a dottyback?

You will need to ensure that other fish get some of the food as these fish are fast at eating and will bully most other fish at feeding times. We use these foods available from Amazon dried Brine shrimp and Dries Mysis shrimp are perfect for your new Orchid Dottyback.

What do you feed a purple dottyback?

For food, the orchid prefers meaty food such as brine shrimp or Krill and they also will go after and eat bristleworms. They will also take flake, frozen and pellet fish foods.

Are neon dottyback reef-safe?

One of the best of all marine aquarium fish, this grows to 7cm/2.8” and one of the most peaceful dottybacks. It can be kept in pairs or groups in larger tanks, although setting up such groups is expensive. As a Red Sea species, this is not a cheap fish.

Are all Dottybacks aggressive?

One of the things that make it favorable for reef aquariums is that it’s not overly aggressive and will get along with almost all tankmates except those that are quite docile, such as anthias. It’s also a good hunter of small bristleworms.

Do Dottybacks like to hide?

They are a fish that likes to skulk in the rockwork but eventually if left alone will become more outgoing. I added another to my tank and it was great to watch their spawning behaviour.
