Butter is dairy and non-acidic so the water bath method will not stop botulism. Canning butter is so easy and the best type of jars to use are half-pint, wide-mouth jars. The wide mouth makes it easier to get the butter out of the jars and opening a half pint at a time is convenient for most families.
Can butter be canned safely?
Despite what is found on the internet, there are no science-based methods for home canning of cheeses, milk, butter or other dairy products. Clemson Extension and the National Center for Home Food Preservation do not recommend any process for canning these products.
Is canned butter the same as ghee?
Ghee is a clarified butter that is perfectly shelf stable. That is what I am canning here. To make your canned butter, or homemade ghee you will need: Unsalted butter.

Fats. When you choose to can food, don’t let fats be on your list. Dairy. Another food group you should avoid is dairy. Grains. Since grains are drier and usually less oily, it may be an assumption they’re safe to can. Thickeners. These Vegetables. Nuts. Refried Beans. Purees.
Can you freeze canned butter?
Nope. Butter freezes without losing flavor or texture. In fact, since butter can go bad after a few months in the fridge, it may make sense to store it in the freezer if you don’t normally go through it quickly.
How do you preserve butter?
Butter can be stored in the fridge in its original greaseproof paper as long as it is tightly sealed. If the paper came is ripped and you cannot reseal it tightly, just wrap it up in aluminum foil to keep it fresh. Place the butter in the fridge away from other foods.
Do jars have to be fully submerged when canning?
Once all the jars have lids and rings, lower them into your canning pot. Make sure the jars are fully submerged and are covered with about an inch of water (you need that much to ensure that they won’t become exposed during boiling).
Is it really important to fill the jar according to the recipe?
Yes, leaving the specified amount of headspace in a jar is important to assure a vacuum seal. If too little headspace is allowed the food may expand and bubble out when air is being forced out from under the lid during processing.
How long does canning last?
The official recommendation for how long to store jars of food is one year, and you’re recommended to eat it within 2 years. It’s a quality issue. After that first year, the food is not necessarily bad, so don’t throw it away just yet.
Is olive oil or ghee better?
Olive oil, compared to ghee, contains a much lower amount of saturated fat. The latter, when consumed more than needed, will lead to an increase in cholesterol levels. Olive oil is higher in monounsaturated fats, which are healthy for you. Both olive oil and ghee are high in calories.
Can margarine be canned?
The Gold-n-Sweet Canned Margarine is a great substitute to butter for baking, cooking, frying, and grilling.
Why ghee is better than butter?
Both contain nearly 100% of calories from fat. Ghee contains a higher concentration of fat than butter. Gram for gram, it provides slightly more butyric acid and other short-chain saturated fats. Test-tube and animal studies suggest that these fats may reduce inflammation and promote gut health ( 3 ).
Can bananas be canned?

Can yogurt be canned?
