What is Z Brick made out of?

Z‑BRICK® products are made of several non-combustible mineral-based materials including Portland cement, crushed aggregate, clay, water, natural USA color oxides –and do not contain plastic, plaster, or synthetics.

How do you remove Z Brick?

The best method is to remove the bricks drywall and all — cut a small hole in the wall, grab the back of the drywall, and simply pull it off in chunks. Once the hole opens up, it gets easier.

Can Z Brick be painted?

A. Yes, you can paint the old 1970’s Z Brick product in your kitchen. As with any painting application, be certain that the surface you intend to paint is clean and free of dirt or grease.

Applying thin brick directly over standard untreated drywall may negatively affect joint quality and overall durability.

You can install a thin brick floor over a cement base or over an installed cement board. Use a modified thin set adhesive, such as Old Mill Brick Adhesive, for your flooring project. Place your thin bricks on the adhesive and press them down gently.

It looks and feels like brick, but is much lighter and thinner than brick. Z-Brick is typically cemented directly to the drywall or plaster of your walls and is therefore very difficult to remove. A much easier alternative to removing Z-Brick is to paint or stain it and give it a completely new look.

Can you white wash Z-Brick?

It’s a technique of applying watered-down paint. Whitewashing covers the brick with a translucent white coat. Whitewash allows the texture of the brick to show through, while covering most of its red color. You can adjust the thickness of the whitewash to control how much of the original brick color remains visible.
