Rosary beads are a Catholic tradition to keep count of the Hail Marys said during the prayer. It’s thought that it dates back to the early Church of the 3rd and 4th centuries when Christians used knotted ropes to count their prayers.
In Islam, a string of 99 beads represents each name of Allah. While subha consisting of 33 beads relate to a hadith that calls on Muslims, after they have prayed, to repeat subhanallah (glorious is God) 33 times, alhamdulillah (all praise be to God) 33 times and Allahu Akbar (God is great) 33 times.
Hail Mary (12x) in honor of the twelve years of Jesus’ infancy. Before the first Hail Mary say: And the word became flesh, and lived among us. At the end of the chaplet say: Holy Infant Jesus, bless and protect us. This chaplet (3 and 12 beads) has a medal with the image of the Holy Infant.
(Otherwise, the medal has no corresponding prayers.) The Rosary can be divided into three parts: the introduction, the five decades, and the conclusion. The introduction consists of the cross and the four beads following it, which together mean the Apostles’ Creed, one Our Father, and three Hail Marys.
One Decade Rosary
They are sometimes called pocket rosaries or tenners. The idea behind the one decade rosary is that it is easy to carry around and use for prayer.
The Holy Rosary (/ˈroʊzəri/; Latin: rosarium, in the sense of “crown of roses” or “garland of roses”), also known as the Dominican Rosary, or simply the Rosary, refers to a set of prayers used in the Catholic Church and to the string of knots or beads used to count the component prayers.
The number 108 is considered a sacred number in Hinduism, Buddhism and yogic tradition. Malas or Japa beads come in a string of 108 and are used for devotional meditation, mantra and prayer. With each bead a mantra or prayer is repeated to meet a total of 108.
The word rosary itself comes from the Latin “rosarium,” meaning a garden or garland of roses. During the Middle Ages, agriculture metaphor was common. Writing often drew comparisons to plowing a field, and collecting prayers was seen as growing a garden or arranging a bouquet.
Red: (Redemption by Jesus)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life. –
Independently from this historical reason, there is a symbolic reason. Ten has the meaning of totality and unity, meaning that each one of Christ’s mysteries is part of his total person and work and expresses its unity and totality, as well as its thorough contemplation by the person who says this decade of the rosary.
The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows, also known as the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows or the Servite Rosary, is a Rosary based prayer that originated with the Servite Order. It is often said in connection with the Seven Dolours of Mary.
The Peace Chaplet contains 21 beads, arranged in seven groups of three beads, On the first (single) bead on the dropper pray the Apostles’ Creed On each set of three beads pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.
Each of the five decades of the Rosary highlights a unique moment within the Paschal Mystery. There are four sets of mysteries — Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous, and Glorious — and each contains five pivotal events from the life of Jesus.
The recitation of the Rosary, which lasts about twenty minutes, may be led by a family member or, if desired, by the Priest, Deacon, or Pastor’s designee.
One way to be successful is to not try to start with a full, five-decade rosary. Instead, perhaps try to pray one rosary over the course of the week. You can pray at a family altar where images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary are enthroned. Keep rosaries there for the children.
