It’s the end of an era at IKEA—and no, I’m not talking about the discontinuation of their iconic catalog (RIP). The company is replacing their popular Ektorp sofa in the United States and Canada, much to the dismay of devotees. Ektorp has skyrocketed to popularity, and it’s not hard to see why.
This post was originally named “5 Reasons to LOVE Ektorp Couches”. But in the fall of 2020 the line was discontinued. If you can snag a few couches and slipcovers now would be a great time to buy!
Bemz makes replacement Ektorp sofa covers and extra Ektorp couch covers for the complete IKEA Ektorp series, including the IKEA Ektorp 3 seater sofa, the IKEA Ektorp 2 seater sofa (also known in some circles as an Ektorp loveseat), the now discontinued IKEA Ektorp 2 seater sofa bed, and the discontinued IKEA Ektorp 3
Our couches were so old and worn after all these years, it was definitely time to get new ones. We were planning on sticking with Ektorp but, in October 2020, Ikea replaced their beloved Ektorp sofas with the new Uppland series.

Although some Ektorp configurations has been discontinued in IKEA stores, Comfort Works is still producing replacement slipcovers for the IKEA Ektorp. Our Ektorp slipcovers also come complete with pleated skirts and piping, just like the original.
The Ektorp sofa is comfortable even after 2 years of use. The cushions have not lost their shape and it still provides a cozy spot to curl up. When it comes to the sofa with the chaise it is even more comfortable. The chaise provides the ultimate cozy set up for relaxing.
The good news about Ikea couch covers is that they are machine washable and the cleaning method is very easy. This tutorial works on a new cover or old washable slipcover and a cover for the Ikea Ektorp chair.
As it was filling up I added 1/2 bottle (1/2 Cup) of the navy dye and 1/2 bottle (1/2 Cup) of the black dye, and 1 Cup of salt. I let my machine agitate for a minute to mix and then I added my covers. As instructed, extended the wash an extra 30 minutes by resetting the cycle before it can rinse. Rinse in cold water.
What items are included in Ektorp sofa covers? To cover your standard Ektorp sofa, you’ll need the slipcover for the sofa itself and an additional three cushion covers. The corner Ektorp sofa will include four cushions. Most of the time, Ikea Ektorp sofa covers of any type are sold as complete sets.
The Ektorp which wasn’t the most squishy couch to begin with, so the Uppland is even more comfortable – both to sleep on and sit on.
