Massachusetts is one of the largest TIPS Alcohol certification states in the US. Establishments and liquor liability insurance carriers require seller/servers to be TIPS Certified to sell or serve alcohol in bars, restaurants, nightclubs, sports bars, or anywhere alcohol is sold or consumed.
Who Should Be tips Certified? Anyone who serves alcohol in a Massachusetts licensed establishment should take this training and receive their certification. TIPS certification is required my many bars and insurance companies.
It was a great test it was a little hard but quiz wasn’t as hard as the reading and studying for the test. But it was educational. The test took about 3 to 4 hours depending how much you soak in and then take the quiz.
Depending on the user and the course jurisdiction, the course can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to complete.

About New York Bartending School®
Time to complete this education training ranges from 2 hours to 6 weeks depending on the qualification, with a median time to complete of 2 weeks. The cost to attend New York Bartending School® ranges from $100 to $1,000 depending on the qualification, with a median cost of $600.
So long as he or she is at least 18 years old, the state of New York does not require a bartender to be certified and have a bartending license. However, a certified bartender does have a leg-up on a non-certified bartender when it comes to competition.
In Massachusetts there aren’t any state regulations in place that require a server or bartender to be licensed in order to sell alcohol. It is important to keep in mind some employers will require bartenders to complete such courses regardless of state or city laws.
The official TIPS® Certification card is valid for 3-years and will expire 36 months from the date you last took the TIPS® course. In order to maintain TIPS® Certification you must retake the course in its entirety and pay the $40 course fee every 3-years.
You may become a certified TIPS trainer, but TIPS is not a TABC classroom provider in Texas.

Responsible alcohol training is not mandated by the state of Florida. However, some Florida Insurance companies have made certification mandatory for the bars to purchase liquor liability insurance.
I failed the course. What happens next? You are entitled to a free retake of the TIPS Certified course and certification exam. A new registration will be created for you, and you will receive an e-mail that provides you with instructions for accessing the free retake course.
No you do not make tips. No there are no tips while training but you get the regular rate for that week instead of server pay rate.
