2a – the most subtle curly hair pattern/type, a slight wave or kink to the hair. 2b is loose and bendy S-shaped strands but still more of a wave than a curl. 2c are more defined S-shaped curls which start from the root. It’s also worth saying, type 2 wavy hair is not failed curls!

Do I have 4a 4b or 4c hair?

In a Nutshell. 4a hair has sweet S-shaped curls, 4b hair has juicy zig-zagged curl strands and looks like cotton candy, and 4c hair has thick coils that form massive afros. Here’s a fun fact: No one head can have only one hair type. You can have a mixture of 4a/4b, 4b/4c, 4a/4c, or even a combination of all three (3)!

How do you define 2B curls?

2B Hair type is best described as wavy hair. This hair type is not quite curly and it’s not quite straight. If your hair is mostly flat and straight at the roots but gets wavier and more “S” shaped toward the bottom, then you have 2B hair!

What is extremely curly hair called?

This hair type is also known as coily or very curly. These curls can be “S” shaped or “Z” shaped, and they are very well-defined.

Type 2C can be described as a deep wave, or “a true definition of S-waves,” says celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. Almost curly, your hair is manageable to style but prone to frizz—still with a smooth texture to each strand. That means it’s also more vulnerable to heat damage, especially when chemically treated.

Is 4c hair curly?

4c hair type has the tightest curl pattern of all the curly hair types. Strands are formed in tight, springy, ringlets. 4c hair tends to clump more at the ends and is even more prone to shrinkage than 4b hair. According to CURLS, 4c hair can shrink up to 75% of its length!

Type 2a hair has the loosest shape S pattern out of the three types of wave style. Type 2a hair is in the wavy hair spectrum falling between curly and straight strands. This hair type is overall the most manageable and low maintenance, but is the thinnest in body.

Is 2b hair curly?

There’s no denying that your 2b hair is wavy. You don’t quite have a curl pattern, but there’s no way you could pass as having straight hair⁠ — and that’s a good thing. Your natural waves are the texture that stick-straight hair types can only achieve after a long curling iron session and a rigorous scrunch of mousse.
