Install the first length of Z-flashing. Begin at either end of the wall and set the level middle section of the Z-flashing onto the top edge of the siding panel, with the wider flange upward and against the wall framing.
Do you overlap Z flashing?
The Z flashing is there to prevent water from creating water damage as you have noticed. The flashing is usually overlapped and that is sufficient unless in a windy area then a very small bead of calk between the overlapped flashing can be used but is not needed when properly installed.
Can you paint aluminum Z flashing?
Never attempt to paint aluminum flashing without abrading and priming it first, or you will have problems with adhesion. Few things inspire your average do-it-yourselfer more than the thought of remodeling the exterior of his or her home with a brand new coat of paint.
Does flashing go under house wrap?
The house wrap has to be flashed properly to keep the water moving down and out, not down and in. That means you want the upper layers to come down over the top of the lower layers. Where builders often get this wrong is at the top of a window.
Does roof flashing go under siding?
In certain instances flashing may need to be installed on the exterior of siding. However, in most instances, step flashing should be installed “behind” siding. It is always recommended to install step flashing behind stucco, Dryvit, wood panel, lap siding, vinyl siding, cedar shingle siding, etc.
How far should flashing overlap?
When fitting flashings they should overlap by a minimum of 100mm.
How much do you overlap flashing?

Does flashing go under or over shingles?
Flashing should overlap the roof-covering material, but on asphalt shingle roofs, for aesthetic reasons, the part of the headwall flashing that extends down over asphalt shingles is often covered with a course of shingle tabs.
Should drip edge be tight to fascia?
A vertical drip edge lip extends down roughly 1 5/8″ and as Steve points out, should not be set tight against the fascia board or water may run behind the gutter and down the fascia, inviting leaks and rot.
Does metal roof need drip edge?
A drip edge is not needed for metal roofing. If you make sure to overhang your metal roofing at least an inch, the drip edge is not necessary at the eaves and rakes. If the metal roof is hanging over an inch, the water will be directed away from the fascia anyway if at a slant.
