Lsl Studs

Lsl Studs

These Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL) studs come from the factory perfectly straight & flat. There is no cull in the stack, now crowning, and very little frame checking before sheetrock to ensure flat walls. There are a few manufacturers of these but my favorite is Weyerhauser’s Timberstrand LSL studs.

What does LSL mean in lumber?

Laminated strand lumber (LSL) is an engineered wood product that is gaining widespread use. It has high strength, high stiffness and dimensional stability. LSL floor panels fastened to glulam purlins and steel beams. (

Which is stronger LVL or LSL?

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)

Its shear strength is superior to LSL but doesn’t quite match PSL’s ability to withstand bending stress. LVL is more expensive than LSL but is affordable compared to PSL and glulam.

What is an LSL in framing?

TimberStrand LSL is straight, free of knots, and resist twisting, shrinking and bowing after installation. TimberStrand LSL is available in framing lumber, sill plate, framing for tall walls, headers and floor joists.

Who makes LSL lumber?

Tolko Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL) | Engineered Wood Products.

What is LSL used for?

LSL is used primarily as structural framing for residential, commercial and industrial construction. Common applications of LSL in construction include headers and beams, tall wall studs, rim board, sill plates, millwork and window framing. LSL also offers good fastener-holding strength.

What is LSL and LVL?

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL) are engineered structural materials manufactured by bonding wood veneers or strands together with a structural adhesive to form a solid member of end sections and length limited only by manufacturing, transport and handling capabilities.

Can LSL be used for floor joists?

TimberStrand® LSL is an ideal solution, providing an alternative to solid sawn floor joists, especially where longer lengths and greater stability are required.

What is LSL engineered lumber?

Laminated Strand Lumber creates straighter walls, making it easier to install cabinetry, millwork and tile. There are no knots, splits or voids and the strength and stiffness properties of laminated strand lumber (LSL) exceed those of traditional lumber.

Is LSL stronger than dimensional lumber?

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) studs can be two times stronger in compression and tension than standard framing lumber of the same dimension.

What is difference between LSL and PSL?

LSL is also ideal for use in rim conditions due to minimal shrinkage, cupping, and high fastener holding strength when used in highly loaded diaphragms or for shear transfer at plywood shear walls. Parallel Strand Lumber (PSL) is manufactured from veneers laid into long, parallel strands and bonded together.

What is the strongest engineered wood beam?

Power Beam® is the strongest engineered wood product (EWP) on the market with design values of 3000Fb – 2.1E – 300Fv. Power Beam® is manufactured with superior strength southern yellow pine MSR Lumber.

How are LSL studs made?

Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL)

Similar to PSL, laminated strand lumber is made from flaked wood strands that have a length-to-thickness ratio of approximately 150. Combined with an adhesive, the strands are oriented and formed into a large mat or billet and pressed.

What is LSL header?

Length. Sold by lineal foot. TimberStrand® LSL headers reduce installation time and provide a one-piece solution for residential door and window openings. They’re stable so they cut down on callbacks to fix sheetrock cracks, and they’re available in pre-cut lengths to minimize jobsite waste and extra labor.

What is most LSL currently made from?

LSL is part of a family of products, structural composite lumber (SCL), that are made of dried and graded wood veneers, strands or flakes that are layered upon one another and bonded together with a moisture-resistant adhesive into large blocks known as billets.

What wood is LSL made from?

Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL)

LSL is commonly fabricated using fast growing wood species such as Aspen and Poplar. LSL is used primarily as structural framing for residential, commercial and industrial construction.

Is finger jointed lumber strong?

Considerable work has been done on this type of end joint. Joints with slopes of 1 in 10 or 1 in 12 were found to attain tensile strengths equal to 85 to 90 percent of the strength of clear wood. At a slope of 1 in 20, the average was approximate- ly 95 percent of the strength of clear wood in tension (50, 92).
