DESCRIPTION AND USES
GARDZ is recommend for sealing problem porous surfaces such as bare or damaged drywall, plaster, cement and cementitious coatings, spackling paste and joint compound, calcimine, stucco, acoustic and texture finishes, and uncoated wallpaper.
What is Gardz primer used for?
Use GARDZ to seal textured walls and popcorn ceilings. It penetrates soft or crumbly texture material and hardens it, creating a durable, water-resistant barrier that prevents primer or paint from softening texture material underneath.
Can you emulsion over Zinsser Gardz?
Yes. Zinsser Gardz is used to cure troublesome/porous plaster by sealing it. When the application of Zinsser Gardz has dried you can then paint any of the various types of emulsions over it.
Is Gardz a good primer?
Great product! I’ve used Gardz in my business for years as a wall primer and drywall repair sealer. It works great under paint or wallpaper. Take it from a pro, buy with confidence.
Can I paint directly over Gardz?
Top coating / Wallpapering– When dry, Gardz may be top coated with any standard architectural water-based or solvent-based primer or topcoat paint. Gardz is compatible with all types of joint compounds and spackling pastes and any texture or popcorn finish may be applied over it.
How many coats of Gardz should I use?
Just pva or acrylic primer will most always small peel when you put tape on it. So the guardz will do the best job sealing. Any high quality paint will hide in two coats over what you have there, so just do that.
Is Gardz the same as Kilz?
Kilz product is thin but I believe it has a little more workability than Gardz. And no odors isn’t as strong either.

Zinnser Gardz is a clear water based sealer. When applying zinsser gardz you do not need to put too much onto the roller as the product is very watery. Simply apply Zinnser Gardz to the wallpaper and let it dry.
Is GARDZ a stain blocker?
No, it doesn’t stain block.
Can you spray GARDZ?
Gardz is great. There are other primers that will work but Gardz will penetrate deep and seal better than many other primers. Your semi-gloss will likely spread farther so you will save some money on that side which will make up for the little extra that the Gardz cost.
Can you sand GARDZ?
You can do either or preferably both. I usually just knock off the really bad stuff with some 60 or 80 grit, apply the Gardz with a “micro fiber” roller cover, sand again with 100 grit, Gardz again and move on.
Do I have to Prime After using Gardz?
Do I Need To Prime After Using Gardz? The consistency of Gardz is similar to glue, so it is more of a sealer. The surface is clear, so it doesn’t do much to prime. You can paint over it, but again it is clear, so covering stains or discoloration is not helpful.
Is Gardz runny?
gardz is great. I have never sprayed it but it rolls well enough just a little runny.
Can you wallpaper over Zinsser BIN?
Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Base Primer
This is a great oil-based primer for painting over wallpaper that can be used on any surface to help block stains. It also blocks odours and only takes 45 minutes to dry.
