How is TimberStrand made?
The logs are cleaned, debarked and cut into strands up to 14 inches long. These are dried, then aligned and glued with strands parallel to each other to take advantage of the wood’s natural strength. A revolutionary steam injection process presses the strands into solid sheets of wood up to 3½ inches thick.

Can LSL be used outside?
LSL is permitted and is safe to be exposed in accordance with building codes. LSL, like other mass timber products, naturally resists fire because it chars. In the event of a fire, this char on the outside forms a protective layer while retaining strength.
Can LSL be used for rafters?
Since it is manufactured straight and in very long lengths, it is ideal to use as roof rafters in steep slope cathedral ceilings as well as conventional roof framing. 1-1/4” 1.3E TimberStrand® LSL which is typically used as rim board is also an ideal product for your stair stringer material.
Can LVL be pressure treated?
Microllam® LVL and TimberStrand® LSL is appropriate for dry-use applications only (generally not directly exposed to precipitation) and cannot be pressure treated. Neither product is suitable for the pressure treatment process due to material density and adhesive content.
