Cotton, linen and viscose will dye to the full shade shown on the pack. Mixtures of these with polyester will result in lighter shades. Polyester, nylon and other synthetics cannot be dyed. Wool and silk can be dyed with Dylon Hand Fabric Dye.

Is Dylon fabric dye permanent?

DYLON Hand Dye is perfect to colour to smaller items, wool, silk and for crafts such as tie-dye. Use by hand in warm water to give strong, permanent colour to natural fabrics.

Does Dylon work well?

The Dylon dye worked well, it dyed the jeans back to black and they are still the same jeans. They are comfortable to wear and I’m really happy with the results.

Can you leave fabric in dye overnight?

There are no right and wrong answers here. Leave your fabric in the dye for as little or as long as you like. The finished color will be slightly lighter than it looks like when wet. I recommend leaving it in for at least ONE hour, or longer.

How do I remove Dylon from my washing machine?

use pure bleach ( I use domestics ) on kitchen roll to wipe the seal several times until you don’t see any colour then put a cup of bleach in the drum and run the machine on a short hot cycle to get rid of any residue dye.

Does Dylon dye bleed?

These are useful but I prefer to pre-test my fabrics to make very sure that I won’t have any nasty surprises once the project is complete. These Dylon Permanent Fabric Dyes are colorfast. I haven’t had any issues with the dyes running or bleeding.

Is RIT or Dylon better?

Dylon permanent dye is a fiber reactive dye, meaning it reacts chemically with cellulose found in cotton, rayon and silk to create a permanent bond. It won’t fade and the colors will be more intense than rit dye. It doesn’t need heat to activate.

How do you set Dylon dye?

Place the damp clothes in the washing machine and pop the unwrapped and opened DYLON Machine Dye pod directly on top. Set the machine to a full 40° C cycle. Don’t use the economy or pre-wash options. Run the same cycle again, this time adding washing detergent to rinse the dye out.

Can I use Dylon machine dye in a bucket?

Yes Dylon machine wash also works for tie dye in a bucket at around 60°C for one hour or mixed in a squeezebottle in a small amount and directly put on. Then let it sit for 24 hours in a plastic bag.

What does Dylon pre dye do?

Dylon Pre-Dye removes colour from fabric so that it is suitable for dyeing to a lighter colour. Will treat all natural fabrics and nylon. NOT suitable for wool or silk, polyester, acetate, acrylics or fabrics with special finishes. Formulated for use in automatic front loading washing machines.

Do you wash fabric after dyeing?

The first several times you wash dyed items, wash them alone to prevent bleeding-or add an old white washcloth or sock to see if the dye runs. Over time and with repeat washings, the color of the dye may fade-but remember, you can always dye them again.

Should you wash fabric before dyeing it?

Before dyeing, remove any visible stains on the garment. This will help achieve uniform color results when dyeing. Pre-wash item in warm, soapy water without any fabric softener. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.

What happens if you leave fabric in dye for too long?

Yes, waiting more than 24 hours after dyeing may result in dark patches of color. Waiting too long may cause the shirt to dry up. A dry shirt can result in uneven coloration.
