While it may not be pretty, the Cricut Personal was the machine that started it all. This machine used Cricut cartridges, and you did not need a computer for it to function. It was quite a small machine, with a very limited cutting area.

Can you connect the original Cricut to a computer?

Ensure your Cricut Explore machine (Air 2 or older) is powered on and connected to your computer via USB cable, or insert the Cartridge Adapter into a USB port on your computer. Select Link Cartridges from the Account Menu in the upper left corner of Design Space. Select your device from the drop-down menu.

What model Cricut do I have?

The model number and serial number are found on a label or laser-etched on the underside of the machine. The serial number is a 12-character alpha-numeric code, beginning with a model-specific letter.

Can you cut vinyl on old Cricut?

All models of Cricut machines can be set to cut vinyl, but there are some differences in each model’s capabilities. Some will be more equipped for thicker sheets of vinyl and for larger projects, so it’s important you evaluate more than just if the machine cuts vinyl before investing in one.

Any machine that was created before the Explore family of machines qualifies as a legacy machine as it is not compatible with our current design software, Design Space. The first Explore machine launched in 2014. Cricut no longer produces these machines.

Which Cricut machines are discontinued?

Legacy machines that aren’t being sold anymore include Cricut Gypsy, Cricut Cake, Cricut Personal, Cricut Mini, Cricut Expression 2, and Cricut Expression. These machines (along with Cricut cartridges) are no longer supported by Cricut.

Does Cricut sell cartridges?

Cricut has decided to retire all Cricut Cartridges. They are no longer in production, but they all can be used with every Legacy Cricut Machine. Cricut Mini is the only one that will not work with Cricut Cartridges.
