Csst Fittings

Csst Fittings

Don’t Mix: CSST fittings aren’t interchangeable. Unlike heavy traditional rigid back pipe, CSST is a light and flexible gas piping system that goes by a variety of brand names in the U.S. market.

What are CSST fittings?

CSST is a flexible, corrugated stainless steel tubing used to supply natural gas and propane in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. It should not be confused with appliance connectors, the similar flexible piping that connects directly to moveable appliances—like ranges or dryers—from the wall or floor.

Can CSST fittings be reused?

Pro-Flex CSST fittings and components are reusable.

How tight can you bend CSST?

Bends will reduce the gas flow and very sharp bends could weaken the tubing. The recommended minimum bend radius is 3 inches for N4 inch and smaller diameter CSST and is 5 inches for CSST from 1 to 1 1/2 inches diameter. The absolute minimum bend radiuses are I and 3 inches respectively.

Does Csst need to be grounded?

The CSST must be permanently bonded directly to the grounding electrode system of the electrical service of the home in which the CSST is installed.

What is CSST pipe used for?

Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) is a flexible, stainless steel pipe used to supply natural gas in residential, commercial and industrial structures. CSST is often coated with a yellow, or in some cases, a black exterior plastic coating.

How long can a flex gas line be for a stove or dryer?

The flexible connector length usually is limited to 3 feet except for gas ranges and clothes dryers. For these appliances, 6 feet generally is allowed. Splicing or joining connectors with nipples often is prohibited.

Can you reuse yellow gas line?

Don’t reuse gas connectors.

Gas appliance connectors should never be reused. When a gas appliance is replaced, the connector should be replaced at the same time.

When should gas connectors be replaced?

If your home or appliances are more than 20 years old, you may have potentially dangerous uncoated brass gas connectors in need of replacement.

How do you support CSST tubing?

Tubing shall be supported in a workmanlike manner with pipe straps, bands or hangers suitable for the size and weight of the tubing, at intervals not to exceed those shown in Table 4-3. The referenced table requires support every 4′ for 3/8″ pipe, every 6′ for 1/2″, and every 8′ for anything larger.

Can you cut Csst with copper pipe cutter?

Yes, that’s right. A standard tubing cutter can easily cut this tubing. There are at least two manufacturers ofCSST products, so you need to use the fittings supplied specifically for the tubing.

Can CSST pipe be buried?

Can it be buried? Yes, however it must be sleeved in a non-metallic conduit ½” larger than the pipe.

What is the difference between yellow and black CSST?

The black conductive jacket of CounterStrike® has been shown to be up to 400 times more resistant to the damaging effects of electrical energy than yellow CSST. It also lays straighter and pulls easier than yellow CSST.

Is Csst better than black pipe?

Black iron pipe can corrode and leak from thinning sidewalls. Black iron pipe is not listed to any national standards for gas piping. CSST piping can withstand the same forces of nature—earthquakes, lightning, tornados—that make black iron pipe crack. Most rigid steel pipe is made in Asia—with no quality control.

Can you mix galvanized and black pipe for gas line?

There is no galvanic corrosion/reaction between galvanized and black pipe because they’re both made of “soft steel”, galvanized is simply coated with zinc.
