Bake at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4 in (6 mm) thickness. DO NOT MICROWAVE. Baking should be completed by an adult. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

How do you know when Sculpey is done baking?

Bake for 15 minutes per quarter inch of thickness. For example, a piece of 1/2″ thickness should be cured for 30 minutes. To test the curing, try pressing the tip of your fingernail into the bottom of your piece after it has cooled; it will leave a mark but will not actually enter the clay.

Why does my polymer clay break after baking?

Polymer clay breaks after baking because it has not cured properly. This is due to either the temperature being too low or it wasn’t baked for long enough. It does also depend on the brand of clay you are using, as some are more brittle, some are harder.

Can you overbake polymer clay?

Can you over bake polymer clay? Like anything else you put in your oven, polymer clay can be burnt due to overbaking. This can happen either because you have set it to cure at a too high temperature or because it is left in for too long.

Can you bake Sculpey twice?

There is no reason you can’t bake a piece of clay as many times as you need to. In fact, for complex pieces, it’s common to bake parts of the piece separately and then assemble and attach them after baking. It’s also perfectly fine to attach raw clay to baked clay and bake that.

Should polymer clay be flexible after baking?

Polymer clay is supposed to be flexible if it’s baked properly. It is a plastic after all. Polymer clay beads should be bendable if they are baked correctly. Under-baked polymer clay won’t be bendable.

Can you microwave Sculpey?

The directions on Sculpey® packages say not to put the clay in the microwave, but could you use it for baking polymer clay? The short answer is no. Polymer clay’s chemical composition doesn’t react well to the radiation that the microwave employs.

How do you harden Sculpey clay without baking?

When you don’t want to cure clays that harden at a specific temperature in the oven, you can use a heat gun, hair dryer or heat-embossing tool set to the desired temperature. Place the polymer clay creation on a nonstick surface, such as a piece of ceramic tile or block of wood.
