Laquer Thinner

Laquer Thinner

Lacquer thinner is used to thin, dissolve and clean up lacquer-based paints or lacquer products. It helps to increase the flow and leveling of lacquer; therefore it produces a high-gloss, smooth and streak-free finish. It is also used to remove ink on metal and adhesive residue from a variety of surfaces.

Is lacquer thinner same as paint thinner?

Lacquer thinner is not the same as paint thinner. It is too caustic for oil paints, whereas paint thinner is comprised of mineral spirits that are typically used to thin oil-based paints. Lacquer thinner is hotter than paint thinner, and if often a superior cleaner than mineral spirits.

Is lacquer thinner the same as acetone?

Acetone is a dimethyl ketone that is a colorless liquid and is used to remove nail paints, fabric stains, etc. Lacquer Thinner is another liquid chemical used to remove plastics and cement, or other materials from their surfaces.

What can you not use lacquer thinner on?

A paint thinner can remove oil-based paint from brushes and other equipment, but only when the paint is still wet. Paint can often be dissolved by acetone, the only solvent that is strong enough to dissolve it after it has dried. Latex paints, shellac, and lacquers should not be used with paint thinners.
